Frequently Asked Questions

My region has an emissions profile already — why is it different?

A few councils will have historical profiles developed using various methodologies and data sets. There may be differences in the methodologies applied, and it should be noted that many profiles will not have been developed in line with the Global Protocol for Community-Scale Greenhouse Gas Emission Inventories (GPC) standards.

There are several municipalities that have completed detailed emissions profiles which have been verified. In their case, the results have been hard coded into the tool, and these results are provided in place of the Snapshot profile.

The purpose of an emissions profile is not to achieve the most accurate inventory but rather to enable informed decisions around action planning; this purpose should be kept in mind when comparing different profiles.
