Emissions from the AFOLU sector are produced through a variety of sources, including livestock (enteric fermentation and manure management), land use and land use change (e.g., forested land being cleared for cropland or settlements), and aggregate sources and non-carbon dioxide emission sources on land (e.g. fertiliser application and rice cultivation).
Emissions are calculated based on agriculture commodities data available at the LGA level. This is considered Tier 2 data. Agriculture commodities data across all municipalities are aligned with the state totals. Greenhouse gas emissions from AFOLU are amongst the most complex categories for Greenhouse gas accounting.
For more information on AFOLU calculations please see the Methodology document which can be downloaded from the Resources page.
