Frequently Asked Questions

What is included in IPPU?

The industrial processes and product use (IPPU) sector covers greenhouse gas emissions resulting from various industrial activities which are not directly the result of energy consumed during the process. This includes emissions from industrial processes that physically or chemically transform materials (for example emissions associated with concrete production), and the use of man-made greenhouse gases in products – namely refrigerants. Other examples of IPPU emissions include the blast furnace in the iron and steel industry, and ammonia and other chemical products manufactured from fossil fuels and used as chemical feedstock. During these processes, many different greenhouse gases can be produced.

For more information on IPPU calculations please see the Methodology document which can be downloaded from the Resources page.
