Frequently Asked Questions

What is included in On Road (non Google EIE)?

On Road transport covers all journeys by road, including inter-city travel. Greenhouse gas emissions are produced directly by the combustion of fuel. Emissions from electricity used in transport such as rail travel, are included under Stationary Energy.

On Road transport is modelled based on vehicle registration data which is available at the LGA level by fuel type. This is mapped against state-based fuel sales data to estimate on road transport emissions.

This methodology is applied to all municipalities prior to 2018. Post 2018 this methodology is applied to municipalities without google EIE transport data. Currently there are 169 municipalities with google EIE transport data which are predominantly inner city municipalities.

For more information on On Road (non Google EIE) transport calculations please see the Methodology document which can be downloaded from the Resources page.
